Why Paxos?

Gaios from the above

My two cents as a local on what makes Paxos ideal for you summer vacation.

Vibe: Paxos is in fact one of the smallest of the Ionian Sea. It is a small paradise which is mostly unspoiled and gives the impression you are leaving in another era. The island’s tranquil vibe will add to your vacation the necessary relaxation, quiet, peacefulness that you need. Moreover is so small that you easily explore it to its full.

Food: The traditional Greek diet is well known for the easy preparation of extremely tasty food and the use of simple ingredients.  A Greek salad (tomato, cucumber, olives, onion, feta cheese & olive oil) can be the ideal lunch especially when overlooking the sea (and even better when accompanied by a cold beer).

In Paxos you can find many restaurants/taverns/bars that serve traditional (and other) tasty food using healthy ingredients.
If you want to follow some basic rules on your diet have a look below

  • Eat plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts.
  • Use olive oil.
  • Use herbs and spices instead of salt.
  • Limit red meat.
  • Eat fish and poultry at least twice a week.
  • Drink red wine.

Beach: Paxos has many types of beaches, found along the coastline. There are small or large beaches, sandy (on Antipaxos), pebbled or rocky, with a green surrounding, trees reaching the see, popular or isolate. However, one thing all have in common is the crystal clear waters. I would advice renting a small boat and take a day to explore the island by sea.

Sightseeing: In this small peace of heaven you can find three main villages (Gaios, Loggos, Lakka) that you need to see them on foot.
On the west side of the island the scenery is wild, white cliffs, waves, see caves and difficult hikes compose a magnificent setting. The island is full of trees (mainly olive trees) that stop literally down to the sea.
Take a hike under the olive trees and explore the unseen beauty of real Paxos.

Locals: Trust the locals!! Everyone in the island works on tourism and they will be more than happy to help you, offer tips, and make sure you are having a great time in the island.
